
4th Annual Be A Boss Event: Womxn Charting Their Own Path
On Saturday, January 8, 2022, East Harlem Tutorial Program is holding our 4th annual Be a Boss event. Be a Boss is a career panel for our womxn scholars to learn about different options in the professional world. Our audience will include the talented young womxn in our High School and College Scholars program, EHTP alumnae, as well as womxn in EHTP’s network of friends and supporters.

Attorney Eboni K. Williams -- co-host of late night’s State of the Culture of Revolt TV and the first Black cast member on Real Housewives of New York City, will moderate this dynamic event, which opens with a one-hour conversation with Co-Chairs from the private, public and non-profit sectors.

Leslie Ortiz
MPH Candidate, New York University in Public Health Policy and Management
East Harlem native, Leslie Ortiz is currently pursuing her MPH at New York University in Public Health Policy and Management. She was the former Regional Director of Program Management at Aya Healthcare, staffing healthcare professionals at hospitals throughout the country. She led Aya Healthcare program managers at hospital systems in the Midwest and East regions in strengthening client relationships, improving processes, and mitigating issues.
Prior to Aya Healthcare, Leslie worked in the non-profit sector serving at-risk and marginalized communities as Prevention Resource Coordinator at Coalition for a Drug-Free Hawaii, Home Visitor at Early Head Start, and Developmental Skills Trainer at Alaka’i Na Keiki Inc. She graduated cum laude from Ithaca College with a Bachelor of Science in Public and Community Health.

Kate Jhaveri is the Chief Marketing Officer of the NBA. Jhaveri previously served as the CMO of Twitch, Head of Consumer Marketing at Twitter, Head of Brand Marketing at Facebook, and spent seven years at Microsoft overseeing the worldwide Marketing Communications team for Windows, Internet Explorer and bing.com. Earlier in her career, Kate was Manager of Corporate Strategy at Dell. Jhaveri serves as secretary of the national board for Planned Parenthood Action Fund. Kate received her MBA from Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from College of the Holy Cross.

Mount Sinai Health System’s Office for Diversity and Inclusion
Ann-Gel S. Palermo DrPH, MPH is the Senior Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer in Education and Research of the Mount Sinai Health System’s Office for Diversity and Inclusion. Dr. Palermo provides leadership and strategic vision and guidance in the integration of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into the structures, policies, and practices of the education and research environments. Dr. Palermo spearheads and works in partnership with senior leaders to develop and implement initiatives with effective accountability and assessment mechanisms to foster a holistic, equitable, and thriving environment for Mount Sinai faculty, staff, students, and trainees.

Mónica Gil is Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative and Marketing Officer of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, the leading media company serving the 60 million Latinos living in the U.S. In this role, she is responsible for the operations, growth marketing, and strategy and insights for the company. Additionally, Gil oversees Corporate Communications, Corporate Affairs, Government Affairs, Corporate Social Responsibility and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts. Gil is a member of the Latino Advisory Panel to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and is a board member of the National Women’s History Museum. She is a former board member of ProAmerica Bank and Girl Scouts of the USA. Gil earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.A. from the University of Southern California School of Public Administration.
